Located southwest of Bergerac, in the heart of Périgord, Domaine de Grande Neuve sits between 50 and 180 meters above sea level in the town of Pomport. The terroir is rich with clay and limestone, and the estate has grown from four hectares in 1896 to more than ninety today, all the while passing through successive generations of the Pichon family. Presently run by Anthony, who represents the fifth generation to work on the land, the estate scrupulously maintains traditional methods, honoring the history of the land and the family.
Unlike what one is accustomed to in neighboring Bordeaux, Domaine de Grande Neuve features more than 60% white grapes, with an average age of 25 years across the entire estate. These vines are replanted at a rate of one or two hectares per year, so as to maintain a balance of old and new vines. Sémillon features extensively, while Merlot, Cab Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon are also important.
Vinification is done on the estate in steel vats, while harvesting is a mix of hand and machine techniques, depending on the wine. Monbazillac, a specialty of the region, plays an important role in the estate’s portfolio, but they also make a full range of other wines, including a unique méthode traditionnelle from Sauvignon Blanc!
