Established in 2004, Pascal and Elisabeth Glas and their daughters, Cécille and Axelle, have made their estate, Domaine de Poulvarel, into a family story. During its first decade-plus of existence, it has continued to surprise and evolve. The estate is certified High Environmental Value, a French certification that guarantees a respect for extant biodiversity, preservation of the environment and the natural character of their wines.
Located in the far northern reaches of the Costières de Nîmes appellation, it is there, near the famous Pont du Gard, on land that has been in their family for three generations, that Pascal and Elisabeth have created a remarkable and unique estate. Uniquely, it centers around a cellar that blends contemporary architecture structure with the region’s iconic limestone, as seen in the famous Pont du Gard, with close attention paid to temperature and preservation.
The terroir, with its sandy clay soil and preponderance of river pebbles, is well-drained and lends itself to the typical Côtes-du-Rhône grapes of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan, as well as a smattering of white grapes, including Grenache Blanc. All wines are vinified and aged on the estate, and harvesting is done with respect for both the grapes and the terroir.
