Located between Colmar and Rouffach in Pfaffenheim, Alsace, Domaine Le Freud has worked its vines in the traditional way for many generations. The Le Freud estate has belonged to the Freudenreich family since 1730. Until 1991, the estate was run by Robert, and is now led by his son, Christophe. Christophe has played an important role in bringing the operation into the 21st cetury, including enlarging and modernizing the cellars. He currently cultivates nearly eight hectares of vines. Following traditions passed down from generation to generation, the soils are still worked with a plow and the wines kept in the same wooden barrels which have helped to grow the reputation of this family estate since the 18th century.
On their estate, the Freudenreich family grows a full range of Alsatian grape varieties , cultivated over centuries with the greatest respect for nature and family traditions. Specialties include the dessert wines vendange tardive and Sélection de Grains Nobles, as well as a wide range of dry and sweet wines, including Pinot, Sylvaner, Gewurztraminer, Muscat, Riesling and Freud, their flagship wine, made with a secret recipe — there is something for every taste!
The Freundenreich family vineyard recently obtained the “High Environmental Value” certification, and is currently undergoing organic conversion.
