Château Pertignas is located on the edge of the village of Saint-Émilion in the Entre-Deux-Mers region of Bordeaux. There, in a magnificent setting between the two rivers of the region, the Garonne and Dordogne, surrounded by valleys, old stones, forests and – of course – vineyards, Pierre Gauthier, a wine grower since “always” and a native of the area, drew from his experience a taste for traditions, rigor and “good living.”
After years working in cooperative cellars with fellow winemakers, in 1998, he finally decided to develop his own great Bordeaux wines, and was joined in 2003 by his son, Vincent, whose studies in wine and enthusiasm were a welcome addition to the team. The personality of the two is reflected in their wines; they speak of authenticity, quality, festivity, frankness and generosity, all coming together.
Also of the utmost importance for the Gauthiers is sustainability — the practice of ensuring that their wines help the surrounding environment to thrive. Growing the traditional Bordeaux reds — Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc — as well as Sauvignon Blanc, the Gauthiers see themselves of part of the rich winemaking tradition on Entre-Deux-Mers and strive to make that shine through in all of their production.
