In the heart of the Rhône, in Gigondas, one of the most prestigious southern Côtes du Rhone appellations, lies Domaine de Font-Sane, in operation since 1860. Expertise handed down from generation to generation draws the very best from the terroirs, as does the marriage of tradition and state-of-the-art techniques in an estate which operates under the principles of High Environmental Value, emphasizing harmony between growing practices and the land.
Véronique Cunty-Peysson and her husband, Bernard, continue to develop their wine-making know-how, and contributing to the reputation of these great wines. Their son, Romain, who recently arrived on the estate after completing a Master’s in International Wine Business, handles the commercial in France and abroad.
The Domaine is about 16 hectares (39 acres) divided into Red Gigondas, Red and Rosé Ventoux and Vin de France, with a focus on sustainable culture across a diverse set of terroirs, which help to give the wines breadth and definition. The soil types include clay/limestone, pebbles, sand, alluvium and a sandy loam. Fertilization is done every year by adding organic compost; these natural products help promote good exchanges between the soil and the plant; quality is always preferred over quantity.
