Domaine Masson is located in the heart of the Coteaux Varois-en-Provence appellation, halfway between Nice and Aix-en-Provence. Nestled in the middle of the woods, this set of vines extends across more than twenty hectares at the foot of the Bessillon massif.
Here, the air takes on a scent of thyme, moss and bark. The red ochre earth retains the water from the last rain shower — this is where this noble wine is made. At 350 meters above sea level, the 15 to 55-year-old vineyard is worked from clay-limestone soil. Nestled in a natural bowl created by the Provençal hills, it benefits from exceptional amounts sunshine and the warming breath of the Mediterranean winds.
The terroir serves to reinforce the qualities of the six grape varieties planted on the estate, thus maintaining the authenticity of the wines produced. From Grenache, Syrah, Cabernet-Sauvignon, Carignan, Cinsault and Rolle, the dominant grape varieties of each cuvée are harvested, with the Domaine remaining committed to a passionate approach to preservation through careful cultivation methods.
Older vines and manual thinning produce a small yield of just 55hl/ha, lending a real personality to the cuvées, with night harvesting is preferred to preserve the freshness of the grapes.
